Auslan
In our Auslan sessions, we are working on communicating and understanding more about how one of the languages of the Deaf community in Australia works.
Students learn to put the signs they have learnt into practice, for example signing important information about themselves - their favourite food, to translating short phrases about school routines - can I get a drink please?
We play games to build students’ ability to communicate without using their voices, a firm favourite being Auslan Red Letter, and students have the opportunity to engage with Auslan stories and videos from Deaf signers. We also explore the culture and history of Auslan and the Deaf community.
It sounds a lot but it is really lots of fun!
