Menzies Creek Primary School Logo

Children and families at Menzies Creek Primary are aware of their environment and are actively involved in making a difference. Environmental Studies uses this positive attitude to foster learning and action to facilitate change. Students particpate in an environmental studies lesson once a weekw ith Mrs Ryeland.

Menzies Creek Primary School has a range of programs in place to support and promote sustainablity:

  • Grade 6 Environment captains recycle paper collected by each class (after being reused)
  • Tubs are placed under each drinking tap to collect excess water.
  • 'Turn off' signs have been placed on all light switches
  • Monitors compost all classroom and staffroom food scraps
  • Removal of environmental weeds and development of native gardens
  • Participation in School's Clean Up day.
  • Environmental excursions (CERES, Yellingbo)
  • Nude Food days (no packaging).
  • Planting of school vegetable gardens
  • School Council Sustainability sub-group
  • The school has 3 large water tanks

Currently we are in the process of developing Menzies Farm. This will involve growing fruit and vegetables and also keeping chickens.
